Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, received a high honour from Türkiye. During his official visit to Ankara on 13-14 July 2026, he was awarded the Turkish Armed Forces’ Distinguished Service Medal. This top military award recognises his important role in strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The award was presented by Turkey’s Chief of General Staff, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. Field Marshal Munir was received with full military honours in Ankara. He also held high-level meetings with Turkish military and political leaders, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The talks focused on defence cooperation, joint exercises, and regional security issues.
Pakistan and Türkiye share strong military relations. Both countries work together on projects like drones, frigates, and training programs. This visit is expected to further boost these ties.
Reports say Field Marshal Asim Munir is the only serving military leader to receive the highest military honours from more than 10 countries. This shows his growing respect on the world stage.
