First Monsoon Spell Likely to Hit Parts of Pakistan from July 1

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that the 2026 monsoon season will likely begin from July 1. Northeastern areas, including Punjab, Kashmir, and northern regions, are expected to receive the first rains. Sindh province, including Karachi, may wait until July 5 or later for monsoon showers.

A low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring rain to northern and northeastern parts first. PMD officials say this early spell could bring moderate to heavy showers in some places.

However, the overall seasonal outlook for June to August 2026 is not very wet. PMD predicts below-normal rainfall across most of the country, especially in Punjab and Sindh. Northern areas like Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may see near-normal or slightly above-normal rain.

Temperatures are expected to stay above normal, raising the risk of heatwaves. People should stay updated with official weather alerts and prepare for possible flooding. Farmers and city authorities need to plan carefully for water management this season.
