At least five tourists lost their lives after a boat carrying members of the same family capsized in Saifullah Lake at Mahodand in the Kalam area of Swat. The tragic incident has left the victims’ families and the local community in deep shock.
According to initial reports, the boat overturned while the family was enjoying a trip on the lake. Rescue teams, police officials, and local volunteers quickly reached the scene and began search and rescue operations. They recovered the bodies of five victims from the water and continued searching for one passenger who was still missing.
The boatman survived the accident but suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the boat to capsize, and an investigation is expected to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
Faisal Karim Kundi and Sohail Afridi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. They extended their condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the victims.
The provincial leadership also directed officials to ensure that the rescue operation continued until the missing passenger was found. They instructed the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and determine whether any negligence was involved.
Officials have also called for the strict enforcement of boating safety measures at tourist destinations. They emphasized the importance of following safety regulations, including proper boat inspections and the use of life jackets, to help prevent similar accidents in the future and ensure the safety of visitors.
