Flash Floods Strand Hundreds in Lower Chitral, Over 200 Rescued

More than 200 stranded passengers were safely rescued after flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains blocked parts of the Drosh–Ashirat Road in Lower Chitral. The flooding disrupted traffic and left many travelers unable to continue their journey.

Rescue 1122 teams quickly responded to the emergency and launched a rescue operation that lasted around six hours.

During the operation, rescue workers safely evacuated passengers from the affected area and recovered four vehicles that had become trapped by floodwaters. Officials confirmed that all passengers were brought to safety and no casualties were reported.

Authorities worked together to manage the situation and restore access to the road. The National Highway Authority and the district administration coordinated with rescue teams to clear the affected sections and reopen the route as soon as possible. Their efforts helped reduce the impact of the flooding and ensured the safety of stranded travelers.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has also issued a weather forecast warning of more rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible heavy downpours in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Officials have advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially those living near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas that may be at risk of flooding.

People traveling in affected regions have been encouraged to check weather updates and road conditions before starting their journeys. Authorities also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and to follow safety instructions issued by local officials.

The latest rescue operation highlights the quick response of emergency services during the monsoon season. Officials continue to monitor weather conditions closely and remain prepared to respond to any further emergencies caused by heavy rain and flash flooding across the province.
