For First Time in 3 Years, Rupee Hits 276 Against US Dollars

The Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar on Monday, October 12, 2026, closing at Rs276.97 in the interbank market. This marks the first time in nearly three years that the local currency has returned to this level.

According to market data reported by Mettis Global, the rupee gained 3.04 paisa during the trading session compared with Friday’s closing rate of Rs277.00. The currency last traded below Rs277 in October 2023.

The rupee has maintained a gradual upward trend in recent months, supported by improved currency stability and developments in the country’s external financing position. However, global oil prices and economic uncertainty continue to pose risks to Pakistan’s economy.

A stronger rupee can help reduce the local cost of imported goods, including fuel and certain raw materials. It may also ease some pressure on businesses that pay for imports in dollars.

However, the impact on prices depends on several factors, including global commodity rates, taxes and transportation costs.
