Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has outlined several initiatives aimed at creating more opportunities for young people in Pakistan, stressing the importance of education, technology and employment.
Speaking at an event held to mark International Youth Day, the prime minister said laptops should be viewed as a tool for empowering students rather than simply electronic devices. He said around 700,000 laptops have been distributed to talented students on merit.
Sharif also rejected previous claims linked to the distribution of laptops and emphasised that young Pakistanis should have fair access to education and modern technology.
Along with the laptop programme, the government is planning a new first-employment policy to help young people enter the workforce. A 10% annual quota for startups was also announced as part of efforts to support young entrepreneurs.
The government further plans to expand the Daanish Schools programme beyond Punjab and establish a Daanish University in Islamabad next year.
The announcements reflect a broader focus on education, entrepreneurship and employment as Pakistan looks to strengthen opportunities for its young population.
With a large share of the country’s population made up of young people, improving access to skills, technology and jobs remains important for future economic growth and national development.
