Former PM Imran Khan Appears Before Supreme Court Via Video Link

The former Prime Minister recently appeared in the Supreme Court for a case involving changes to the National Accountability Ordinance of 1999. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is leading a five-member bench overseeing the proceedings, which are not being broadcast live. However, arrangements for video links have been made as per the court’s instructions.

During the hearing, Khawaja Haris, who serves as counsel in the original case, was absent, which disappointed the Chief Justice. The case has been dragging on due to disagreements over what evidence can be considered.

Previously, the court allowed the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to participate in hearings via video link.

Review petitions have been filed challenging the validity of the amendments made to the ordinance. In a close decision of 2-1, the court ruled in favor of the PTI founder’s petition, reinstating corruption cases against government officials.
