The UAE has recently unveiled an innovative initiative known as the ‘Blue Residency,’ offering a groundbreaking 10-year visa to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.
Under this program, the Blue Residency visa will be granted to advocates of environmental action, including members of international organizations, recipients of global environmental awards, and distinguished activists and researchers in the field of environmental work.
Interested candidates can submit their applications through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Additionally, relevant authorities have the opportunity to nominate individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for this long-term residency.
During a recent Cabinet meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the importance of aligning economic sustainability with environmental sustainability was emphasized. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the crucial role of environmental stewardship in shaping the future of the UAE’s economy and society.
The introduction of the Blue Residency program is part of the UAE’s broader commitment to promoting sustainability, with the year 2024 designated as the ‘Year of Sustainability.’ This initiative builds upon the country’s ongoing efforts to address environmental challenges and promote eco-friendly practices.
In recent years, the UAE has implemented several visa schemes aimed at attracting talent and investment, including the Golden Visa program introduced in 2019, offering 10-year residency to investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, outstanding students, and humanitarian pioneers. Additionally, the country launched the green visa program, providing five-year residency to skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs.
By extending residency opportunities to environmental advocates, the UAE seeks to foster a culture of sustainability and innovation while recognizing the invaluable contributions of individuals dedicated to preserving the planet for future generations.
