On May 30, 2023, Airbus introduced its vision for the future of airline passenger experience, called “Airspace Cabin Vision 2035+,” during a virtual press conference. The main focus of this concept is sustainability. Airbus emphasized its ongoing efforts in green propulsion, such as the ZEROe hydrogen propulsion program, and highlighted that cabin improvements could lead to weight reductions, resulting in fuel consumption improvements.
The weight gains can be achieved through innovative materials, improved design, and new procedures, including technology-enabled catering concepts for on-demand pre-ordering of inflight meals and new trolley designs. Airbus aims for a structural weight reduction of up to 40% by 2030. The company also explores biomimicry, drawing inspiration from nature to enhance both passenger experience and aircraft performance.
Although some concept renderings were shown, Airbus plans to reveal more specific details at the upcoming Aircraft Interiors Expo 2023 in Germany. The development of Airspace Cabin Vision 2035+ involved collaboration with 10 airlines, including Delta Airlines, Air New Zealand, and Lufthansa, as well as eight technology suppliers. Passenger surveys were conducted to shape the future cabin product development.
