Gen Z Privacy Just Got an Upgrade – WhatsApp Introduces Incognito Chats

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called “incognito chats” for conversations with Meta AI, aiming to give users more privacy while interacting with artificial intelligence tools.

The new option allows people to have private AI conversations that are not saved for later access. According to the company, once the chat session ends, the conversation history disappears and cannot be viewed again by the user or stored for future use.

The feature is designed for discussions involving sensitive topics such as personal finances, health concerns, relationships, or other private matters where users may prefer greater confidentiality.

Meta said the system is different from traditional end-to-end encryption used in messaging apps, but it is intended to provide a similar level of privacy protection during AI interactions.

At present, the incognito mode only works with text-based AI conversations and does not support other types of media interactions. The company is continuing to expand AI features across its platforms as artificial intelligence becomes a larger part of digital communication tools.

Privacy supporters have welcomed the update, saying it may encourage users to feel more comfortable discussing personal topics with AI systems. However, some technology experts have raised concerns about accountability and transparency. They argue that if harmful or misleading AI responses occur, disappearing chat records could make investigations more difficult.

The feature reflects growing demand for stronger privacy controls in AI products as more people use digital assistants for everyday questions and support.

Technology analysts believe companies will continue balancing privacy, safety, and accountability as AI tools become increasingly integrated into messaging platforms and online services worldwide.
