At a memorial service held at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK) here on Monday, glowing tributes were given to late nuclear physicist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.
The event was held on the institute’s campus to honour late Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, who died recently, and to pay respect to him for his excellent contribution as the institute’s first project director.
The Rector, Pro-Rectors, Deans, and Directors, as well as faculty, students, and staff members, were present at the reference. The condolence session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, SI, and Rector of the GIK Institute.
The rector informed the audience about the late Dr A Q Khan’s significant contributions to national defence, education, and countless other educational, research, and welfare projects.
Dr. AQ Khan was a national hero and pride of Pakistan, according to the rector, for his significant contributions to many assignments in the domains of engineering sciences, emerging technologies and materials, and applied sciences.
Dr Khan was a member of the team that founded the GIK Institute, according to Dr Fazal. His position as a project director, he added, was critical in establishing GIK as a Centre of Excellence in engineering sciences and technology in a distant location.
The rector praised Dr. AQ Khan’s involvement in developing a network of national and international scientists and engineers that led to the establishment of the GIK Institute in accordance with the leadership’s internationally renowned thinking and vision.
A resolution was voted at the conclusion of the reference, praising Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s outstanding efforts and accomplishments.
