Goodbye To Ratta System? Punjab To Introduce Activity- And Concept-Based Learning For Grade 1 To 5 Students From 2027

Punjab is preparing to introduce activity-based textbooks for students up to Grade 5 from the 2027 academic session, marking a significant shift in the province’s approach to primary education.

The new learning materials will place greater emphasis on practical activities, creativity, problem-solving and interactive learning, moving away from an education system that relies heavily on memorisation and rote learning.

Under the revised curriculum, students will be encouraged to understand concepts through classroom activities, experiments, exercises and real-life examples.

The aim is to help children connect what they learn in school with situations they encounter in everyday life.

Work on developing the new books has already begun, with the initiative designed to make primary education more engaging, accessible and focused on developing practical skills.

The move is expected to encourage students to participate more actively in the learning process while helping teachers adopt more interactive methods in the classroom.

By introducing activity-based learning at an early stage, Punjab aims to build stronger foundations in critical thinking, creativity, communication and practical problem-solving, potentially reshaping how young students experience education across the province.
