Government to pay back a CPEC debt of $3 billion to China

The $3 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CMEC) rollover talks began with China and also agreed to convene a much delayed CPEC strategic board meeting with Prime Minister Assistant Khalid Mansoor.

The declared delay at the 10th meeting of the Joint Co-operation Committee (JCC) on the CPEC and the inconvenience of Pakistan in paying CPEC energy projects’ forthcoming borrowing was sending negative signs that the government was serious about the multi-billion dollar strategic endeavor.

“Talks with the Chinese authorities about the win-win situation have begun to restructure the debts of CPEC energy projects,” said Khalid Mansoor, Premier Kurt’s Special Assistant to CPEC Affairs, during his first press conference. He claimed Pakistan has pledged to pay for Chinese investment in projects in the energy industry.
