The Central Development Working Party approved the Karachi Circular Railway as a Modern Urban Railway project worth more than Rs 270 billion on Thursday.
The CDWP, which convened in Islamabad today [Thursday] under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Jahanzeb Khan, forwarded the matter to the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee for further consideration.
The committee was briefed by Secretary Railway. The 43-kilometer dual-track Urban Rail Mass Transit System will be built in three years through a Public-Private Partnership.
He stated that the project is intended to serve 4,57,000 people each day. According to the idea, 30 stations would be built along the corridor, which would cover Karachi’s most densely inhabited regions.
