A 4.8-magnitude earthquake jolted several areas of Punjab, including Mandi Bahauddin, Malakwal, and Phalia, triggering fear and panic among residents late in the day. According to officials at the Seismological Centre, the earthquake’s epicentre was located near Jhelum, with a recorded depth of approximately 12 kilometres.

The tremors were felt across multiple nearby towns and villages, prompting people to rush out of their homes, shops, and buildings while reciting prayers in fear. Witnesses said the shaking lasted for several seconds, causing alarm among families and residents who gathered in open spaces as a precaution.

Authorities confirmed that a 12-year-old child reportedly lost their life during the incident, while concerns remain over possible structural damage in some affected areas. Rescue and local administration teams have been placed on alert to assess the situation and respond to any emergency reports.
