According to Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque, the government is encouraging telecommunications companies to produce and assemble mobile phones in the country in order to lower cell phone prices.
“We want our people to be able to buy a good quality mobile phone for Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 12, 000 instead of paying Rs. 50, 000 to Rs 100, 000,” he said at the inauguration of Information Technology Park at Hyderabad Institute of Arts, Science and Technology.
He stated that if previous governments had planned this sooner, mobile phone rates would have been lower and more job opportunities would have been generated in the country. He also saw the signing of MoU between Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and Hyderabad Institute of Arts, Science, and Technology (HIAST).
