All public and private schools, colleges, and universities across Peshawar district will remain closed on Monday, October 12, following a directive issued by the district administration amid a tense situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Deputy Commissioner’s Office announced the decision on Sunday, October 11. The notification was signed by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Daud Saleemi and applies to educational institutions throughout the district.
The closure comes as the province faces heightened security concerns and growing political tensions. Meanwhile, the federal government has imposed an emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after President Asif Ali Zardari approved the federal cabinet’s recommendations.
The measures were introduced under Articles 232 and 234 of Pakistan’s Constitution amid increasing concerns over law and order and disagreements between the federal and provincial governments.
The closure of educational institutions is expected to temporarily disrupt academic activities across Peshawar. Students, parents, and educational staff are advised to follow official announcements from the district administration and their respective institutions for further updates regarding the reopening of schools, colleges, and universities.
The differences between Islamabad and the provincial government have largely centred on counterterrorism efforts and strategies to address the deteriorating security situation.
