Govt Postpones Budget Announcement to June 10 Instead of June 5: Parliamentarian

The federal government of Pakistan has changed the date for presenting the budget for the financial year 2026–27. The budget will now be presented on June 10 instead of the earlier planned date of June 5, according to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

He shared this update during a television programme and explained that the delay is due to ongoing discussions within the ruling coalition. According to him, the government is holding consultations with its coalition partners to ensure agreement and to “convince allies” before finalising the budget plan.

Dr Chaudhry also rejected reports and rumours suggesting that any new legal or legislative changes were affecting the budget timeline. He clarified that such claims are incorrect and have no connection with the delay.

At the same time, the National Economic Council is actively reviewing important economic targets for the upcoming fiscal year. These include setting a GDP growth target of 4 percent and an inflation target of 8.2 percent. These figures are part of the broader economic planning process for the country.

Officials say the budget preparation is being closely coordinated with the requirements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This is being done to ensure that Pakistan’s fiscal policies remain in line with agreed economic reforms and stability measures.

The government is also balancing development needs with fiscal discipline. Key priorities include managing public spending, supporting economic growth, and meeting financial obligations under ongoing programmes.

The revised budget schedule reflects the need for broader political agreement and careful economic planning. Authorities believe that finalising the budget after full consultation will help ensure smoother approval and better implementation of economic policies in the coming year.
