The federal government has announced a reduction in fuel prices for the upcoming week, offering modest relief to consumers struggling with rising living expenses and persistent inflation across the country. According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel have been decreased by Rs. 5 per litre.
Following the latest revision, the new price of petrol has been fixed at Rs. 409.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now be available at Rs. 409.58 per litre. The revised rates will come into effect from midnight and will remain applicable for the next seven days.
Officials stated that the adjustment was made as part of the government’s regular fuel price review mechanism, which takes into account fluctuations in global oil prices and changes in the international energy market. Fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed periodically based on import costs, exchange rate movements, and applicable taxes and levies.
Although the reduction is relatively small, it is expected to provide some relief to motorists, transporters, and businesses that have been affected by continuously high fuel prices in recent months. Increased fuel costs have contributed significantly to higher transportation fares and the rising prices of essential goods across the country.
Economic analysts believe that any decline in petroleum prices can help ease inflationary pressure to some extent, especially for middle- and lower-income households already facing financial difficulties due to the increasing cost of daily necessities.
