Govt to Provide Fast Internet Services at Tourist Destinations

The government has decided to launch special projects in Babusar Top, Saiful Malook Lake, Kumrat Valley, and other tourism destinations to provide basic telephony and fast internet services.

According to sources in the information technology ministry, one of the prerequisites for promoting tourism in the country is submitting a proposal to the Universal Service Fund (USF) board.

“Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Aminul Haque advised the USF board to launch special projects at key tourist destinations. Internet connectivity in the current era is like any other essential utility required to promote both local and international tourism as internet helps maintain security in those areas,” sources said.

The USF board approved the special internet connectivity project on Friday, presided over by Secretary of IT and Telecom Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui.

Mr. Siddiqui, chairman of the USF board, told the committee that the main problem with these areas was that internet usage increased dramatically during the summer months when many visitors visited, while local users were few.
