Heavy rain and strong winds struck Lahore on Sunday, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat. The downpour turned the weather pleasant but also created challenges for the city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain fell in several areas including Johar Town, Gulberg, Mall Road, Lawrence Road, and other parts of the city. Strong winds accompanied the showers, which is common during the monsoon season in July.
The Lahore administration quickly responded. Officials directed teams from WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency), LDA (Lahore Development Authority), and MCL (Metropolitan Corporation Lahore) to stay active for timely drainage and to clear any blockages. This helps prevent urban flooding in low-lying areas.
Motorists received special advice to drive carefully. Wet roads can become slippery, increasing the risk of accidents. Authorities urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and to follow all safety guidelines.
Monsoon rains are important for agriculture and water reserves, but they often test city infrastructure. Lahore, like many big cities, sometimes faces waterlogging due to poor drainage.
Residents enjoyed the cooler air after the rain, but officials reminded everyone to stay alert for more possible showers. PMD has forecast more rain and thunderstorms in Punjab and other parts of the country in the coming days.
Citizens are advised to secure loose objects, avoid open areas during storms, and report any emergencies to local authorities.
