Pakistan Navy Retired Faisal Rana Becomes Mayor of Rochdale in the UK

Lahore-born Faisal Rana, a retired Pakistan Navy officer, has achieved a major milestone by becoming the Mayor of Rochdale in the United Kingdom for the 2026-27 civic year. He officially took charge of the mayoral office on May 20, 2026, representing the town and its residents.

Rana began his professional journey in the Pakistan Navy as a commissioned officer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and has specialized in marine engineering. During his naval career, he also completed advanced training in warship construction at the DCN Lorient Naval Shipbuilding Dockyard in France.

After moving to the UK, Faisal Rana became actively involved in local government and community service. He served in different roles at Rochdale Council, including Assistant Cabinet Member for Public Health and chairperson of the Rochdale North Township Committee. His leadership experience also includes more than 20 years in business, including a directorship at a company connected with Shell UK Limited.

Beyond politics and business, Rana is a licensed private pilot and enjoys badminton. His election as mayor reflects the growing contribution of Pakistani-origin professionals in British society.
