Several parts of Pakistan are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms over the next two days as a westerly weather system affects the northern areas, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The latest forecast issued on October 5 said scattered rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and northern Punjab. Areas of Punjab likely to receive rain include Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Sialkot.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in several districts including Abbottabad, Mardan, Peshawar, Swat, Nowshera, Charsadda, Malakand and Dir. Some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan may also receive isolated showers.
The PMD said the weather system is linked to a westerly wave affecting the upper parts of the country. The wider forecast shows rain activity continuing intermittently in northern areas from October 6 to October 11.
Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert during thunderstorms. However, the Flood Forecasting Division said major rivers are currently flowing within normal levels, with no significant flood threat expected from river flows.
