The Saudi-led coalition has reported that Yemen’s Houthi movement launched a drone attack targeting a power distribution facility in Madinah. The incident involved a station that supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque and surrounding areas.
According to the coalition, the attack damaged one transformer and caused it to stop operating, while the broader electricity network continued functioning. Officials said an examination of the recovered drone debris indicated that the attack was carried out by the Houthis.
The incident has raised concerns because of the facility’s location and its connection to electricity supplies serving the Prophet’s Mosque. Saudi authorities said measures would continue to be taken to protect Madinah, Makkah, residents, pilgrims and visitors.
