Types of Pakistani Passports

Pakistani Passports

Ordinary Passport

An ordinary passport is for all the citizens of Pakistan who want to travel abroad. But needs some code of formalities to be fulfilled.

Official Passport

This type of Passport is issued to the individuals working in the govt offices who have to travel for official work abroad. Senators, national assembly members, provisional ministers, and supreme and high court judges in this category. Usually, this Passport has a navy blue outer cover.

Diplomatic Passport

A diplomatic passport is issued to the ministry of foreign affairs members. It generally has a red outer cover.

Emergency travel document

An emergency travel passport is issued to the Pakistani citizens who have to travel back to Pakistan one time for emergency reasons.

General Documents Required for Passport

The following document is required for applying for a Pakistani Passport in the passport office. So, the applicant has to bring them to the passport office.

For Age Above 18

1.    Original prescribed fee deposited challan form

2.    Original and valid CNIC or NICOP with a photocopy.

3.    NOC in case the applicant is govt sector employee

4.    Previous original Passport and its copy (if issued)

5.    The dual nationals have to bring their original foreign Passport with a single copy.

6.    Lost passport police report copy along with Passport no. (this is only if the already issued Passport is lost)

For Age Under 18

1.    Original prescribed fee deposited challan form

2.    Original and valid child registration certificate such as a B form.

3.    Valid and original CNIC copies of both father and mother. Otherwise, guardian by law CNIC copies will be required.

4.    The dual nationals have to bring their original foreign Passport with a single copy.

5.    If one of the parents is expired, then his/her original death certificate will be required.

6.    If the parents are separated, court custody granted documents of law will be required.

7.    Previous original Passport and its copy (if already issued)

8.    Lost passport police report copy along with Passport no. (this is only if the already issued Passport is lost)

How to Apply for a Passport in Pakistan? Step by Step Guideline

To apply for the Pakistani Passport, the applicant must perform the following number of steps.

Passport in Pakistan

Attention: *step 1 to step 5 is completed on the one window facilitation desk that the regional passport offices launch*

Step 1 > Go to The Customer Service Counter in the Regional Passport Office.

  • First, the applicant should contact the customer service counter in the regional passport office. Here, the applicant will be guided about all the procedures for applying for a Pakistani Passport.
  • Take the requisite document and go to the token counter.

Step 2 > Token Counter Plus Applicant Data Collection

  • If the applicant has less than 18 years, a child registration certificate with a bank challan form will be generated. Otherwise, the applicant’s original CNIC along with its copies.
  • After this, the office staff will collect the applicant’s data. For example, applicant photograph capturing, CNIC no., fee, type of application, and much more.
  • After data collection, the applicant will receive a token issued by the office.
  • The token contains the application type, type of priority, CNIC no., and deposited fee amount.
  • If you find any token discrepancy, the applicant immediately reports to the official token counter. If you didn’t report a mistake on the token, you have to repeat all steps described above.

Step 3 > Biometric Data Collection (Finger Impression Collection)

  • When the applicant receives the token, then he/she has to go to the biometric counter as soon as possible.
  • At the biometric counter, the data such as impressions of the applicant’s right thumb, right index finger, left thumb, and left index finger will be captured.

Step 4 > Data Entry

  • The data entry counter will call the applicant as soon the token number comes to the applicant’s turn. Thus, when the applicant’s token number is called, then he/she should immediately appear on the data entry counter.
  • Applicant personal data will be entered by the official (on-duty person). The data entry screen will be visible to the applicant too.
  • Applicants can guide the official in case of any modification.
  • After the data entry completion process, a form will be generated containing all the entered information. Check all the data carefully.
  • After verifying all the data, the applicant has to sign the form. After this, the applicant has to submit the form. For the submission procedure, ask the desk for a guide.

Step 5 > Verification Process For Office Records

  • After step 4 completion, the applicant should go to the ECL or BL desk along with the form.
  • The office will conduct a verification process against the ECL and BL. If the office finds it clear after checking the record, the clearance stamp will be marked.
  • If the person comes in the ECL/BL record, then the further Passport process will be stopped until he/she removes from the list according to the SOP rules.

Step 6 > Interview and Decision Making By The Assistant Director

  • The applicant has to reach the assistant director’s office before his/her token no. all the relevant data and form will be transferred to the decision counter.
  • The assistant director in charge will take applicant interviews, and he will assure that all the national status and credibility applicants are satisfied.
  • If the assistant director is satisfied, he will allow for “Go ahead.”
  • Otherwise, he will ask for additional documents. Also, he/she can refer the applicant’s case to the security agency for further nationality verification.
  • The assistant director will defer the applicant’s application to be fewer than 18 years. A printed form will be given to the applicant for attestation of his/her data from the govt gazette officer.
  • The govt gazette officer has to provide CNIC no., contact info, and an official stamp on the form.
  • After this, the deferred case will be allowed for “go ahead.”
  • Now applicant can leave the passport office as the procedure for applying Pakistani Passport is completed.
  • Suppose the application is deferred again by the national security agency or the national status of Pakistani citizenship. In that case, the applicant can also leave the office, as the further procedure will be completed upon the clearance report from the agency. The applicant will be informed telephonically. 

Step 7 > Passport Delivery (Collecting Passport)

When the applicant completes the above steps successfully without any error, the following final steps are followed.

  • The applicant has to visit the Passport office on the date mentioned on the token to collect the Passport.
  •  Only blood relatives or the applicant, him/herself, can collect the Passport. It can also be delivered on the authority letter, specifically in the case of child passports; an authorization letter is required.
  • The applicant will also be informed about the Passport status via SMS service “9988,” known as the Rabta service and email service. This point is mainly concerned with the overseas Pakistanis.

Online Pakistani Passport

Pakistani citizens can now apply online for Pakistan Passport after the launch of the e-portal by the directorate general of Immigration and Passports. However, to avoid any problem due to functional operation, use a physical or manual way to apply for a Pakistani passport.
