Hundreds of Trucks Stranded as Pakistan-Iran Border Trade Suspended

The suspension of Pakistan-Iran trade has left hundreds of trucks stranded on Pakistan’s side of the border, causing difficulties for drivers and significant financial losses for traders. The disruption was reported on Wednesday at Balochistan’s Gabd-Rimdan border crossing, where drivers said they had been waiting for several days for trade activities to resume.

Truck drivers reported facing difficult conditions while waiting at the border, with limited access to basic necessities. One driver said drinking water and proper food facilities were unavailable, raising concerns about the welfare of transport workers caught up in the prolonged suspension.

A provincial official confirmed that trade had remained halted for five days, although some cargo shipments travelling towards Central Asian countries and Turkiye were permitted to cross.

The restrictions have disrupted the movement of goods and affected businesses dependent on cross-border trade.

Shams Ul Haq, a trader based in Gwadar, said Pakistani importers and exporters had suffered losses running into billions of rupees because of the suspension.

The prolonged disruption has placed additional pressure on traders, transporters, and businesses relying on regular commercial links between Pakistan and Iran.
