Hyderabad Industrialists Announces Factories Shutdown

Hyderabad factory owners have expressed concern and have threatened to close their units in protest at HESCO.

In a video statement, the industrial estate chairman slammed the “incompetence” of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) and threatened to close the factories in protest.

He regretted that neither the Sindh government nor HESCO officials were heeding the numerous complaints and appeals to resolve the issue.

“Factory owners will soon be shutting down their plants and protesting HESCO,” he added. The president of the industrial area also called on merchants and citizens to join the protests against HESCO.

Earlier in the day, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a Rs 1.55 per unit electricity tariff increase for consumers because of a quarterly tariff adjustment for businesses.

After massive fuel prices, the federal government increased the cost per unit of electricity by Rs 1.55 for the current fiscal year’s first quarter (July-Sep 2022).

The additional amount will be charged to the energy consumers via the electricity bill from July to September. The quarterly rate adjustment does not apply to K-Electric consumers.
