Iftikhar Ahmed Should Consider Retirement: Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja, the former head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has expressed his concerns about Pakistan’s performance in the Asia Cup 2023, especially after their defeat to India.

Raja pointed out that Iftikhar Ahmed, a batsman, has had a late start in his career and needs to think about his future, particularly when facing spinners like Kuldeep Yadav.

He also criticized Pakistan’s batting strategy, saying that they focus too much on aggressive play, similar to Twenty20 matches, which isn’t helpful in Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket.

Regarding the bowlers, Raja said their efforts were average, and they need to be more aggressive. He emphasized the importance of setting slips and bringing fielders closer to the batsman.

Raja also questioned the selection process, suggesting that the captain and selectors should be more aware of the available players and make necessary changes to the team.

These comments from Raja came after Pakistan’s 10-wicket loss to India in the Asia Cup 2023. This loss has put Pakistan in a precarious position in the tournament.

While some may agree with Raja’s assessment of the team’s issues, others might think he is being overly critical. Nonetheless, it is evident that Pakistan needs to make improvements if they wish to perform well in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
