Imad Wasim, Shan Masood in Race to Replace Shadab as Vice-Captain

For the next home series against New Zealand, all-arounder Imad Wasim and opener Shan Masood are leading candidates to take Shadab Khan’s spot as vice captain.

After being rested for the Afghanistan series, Babar Azam will once more assume the duties of captain for the aforementioned T20I and ODI series against New Zealand.

The T20I and ODI squads will be chosen for the series at a meeting of the selection committee that will be summoned the following week, after consultation with Babar Azam.

The squad will be announced the same day as the meeting, which is anticipated to take place on April 4.

According to sources, top PCB officials were not happy with the decision-making of Shadab in the Afghanistan series and have decided to rest him for the New Zealand series.

Usama Mir is likely to be given a chance in the New Zealand series in place of Shadab as the leg-spinner in the squad. Mohammad Rizwan is expected to retain his vice-captaincy of the Test team.

The final decision regarding the appointment of a vice captain will be taken by PCB management committee chairman Najam Sethi. A formal announcement will be made after approval from the PCB chief.
