Imran Khan was Taken to PIMS, Not Shifa, for Medical Examination: Attaullah Tarar

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has clarified that PTI founder Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for a detailed medical examination, rather than Shifa International Hospital.

According to Tarar, the decision to use PIMS was made because of security concerns surrounding Shifa International Hospital, where PTI supporters and workers had reportedly gathered.

Doctors from Shifa were said to have taken part in the medical assessment at PIMS. A specialist medical team examined Khan and subsequently declared him medically fit.

The medical evaluation was conducted amid concerns about Khan’s health and eyesight. His sister, Uzma Khan, was also present during the process, according to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazl Chaudhry.

After the medical examination and treatment were completed, Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail early Friday morning.

The development followed a period of public attention surrounding the former prime minister’s health while he remains in custody. Khan has been imprisoned since 2023 and continues to face numerous legal cases.

The decision to conduct the examination at PIMS was also linked to maintaining security and avoiding a larger gathering of political supporters at the hospital. Authorities opted for a controlled medical environment while ensuring that Khan received assessment from specialist doctors.

With the medical evaluation completed and doctors declaring him fit, Khan has now returned to Adiala Jail. His health and ongoing legal proceedings are expected to remain subjects of continued public and political attention.

The latest development also highlights the security challenges authorities face when arranging medical treatment for high-profile political figures with large support bases.
