Indian Airlines Reportedly Loses Around $2 Billion as Pakistan’s Airspace Ban Continues!

India’s aviation industry has reportedly suffered losses of around $2 billion since Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian aircraft in April 2025. The restriction has forced airlines to take longer routes, increasing fuel use and operating costs.

Air India is also reducing some international services. The airline will end its Delhi to Vienna service after October 31, while flights between Delhi and Birmingham are scheduled to stop after November 3. Higher fuel prices, airspace restrictions and aircraft being unavailable for maintenance and cabin upgrades have added pressure on operations.

Reports suggest around 800 Indian flights each week are affected by the restriction. Longer journeys can increase travel time and make international routes more expensive to operate.

Pakistan has extended the ban until November 24, 2026, under a notice issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority. The restriction covers Indian-registered aircraft and planes owned, operated or leased by Indian airlines.

The continuing dispute is affecting airline schedules and costs on routes connecting India with Europe and other regions.
