Indian Rupee Down 12% Against PKR Since Marka-e-Haq

The Indian rupee (INR) has weakened significantly against the Pakistani rupee (PKR) over the past year. According to exchange rate data, one Indian rupee was valued at 3.2913 PKR on May 15, 2025 (during the Marka-e-Haq period). By May 18, 2026, it had dropped to 2.901 PKR, showing a decline of nearly 12 percent.

This means the Pakistani rupee has performed better compared to the Indian currency during this period. The Indian rupee has also recorded a depreciation of around 6.8 percent so far in 2026.

Despite facing global economic challenges, inflation, and the impact of regional conflicts, the Pakistani rupee has shown relative strength against the Indian rupee. This comparison has gained attention because Pakistan entered a new IMF program last year, while the Indian rupee has been one of the weaker currencies in the South Asian region.

The Indian rupee has also lost value against other regional currencies, including the Bangladeshi taka. Analysts say that apart from global factors like the strength of the US dollar, domestic economic issues in India are also putting pressure on the INR.
