Equals, the Digital Era Global Alliance for Digital Gender Equality, Women’s Worldwide Network (W4), and CodeGirls have joined forces to organize ‘Tech4Girls’ Girls/Women workshops in Karachi, Pakistan. The plan is to host two “Introduction to Tech through E-commerce” workshops to inspire and familiarize young girls and women with the vast job opportunities in the tech industry, particularly in the local e-Commerce sector. The workshops will take place on two consecutive days, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 30 November and 1 December 2020.
Local trainers will lead both days for improved communication and execution, but will be monitored by Equals, W4, and CodeGirls to ensure that the objectives and KPIs set are met. These full-day workshops are intended to teach participants how to set up and operate an e-Commerce company, and as a platform of choice, Shopify will be used.
For applicants, the eligibility requirement is knowledge of at least basic IT skills, such as the use of basic word processing software, internet browsing, etc. At Genetech Solutions, the workshop will be held and several communities and initiatives have partnered to assist with digital outreach. This includes WomenInTechPK, a women-only tech-oriented group in Pakistan, Femprow, a women-only social initiative based on entrepreneurship in Pakistan, Ananke, a digital magazine focusing on gender-related issues and articles, TechJuice, Pakistan’s leading website for technology news, and ProWomen by P@SHA, Pakistani Professional Women’s biggest directory.
Registration for workshops will start on November 13th and remain open until November 23rd, 2020. The registration form can be found here. An email confirmation will be sent to all selected participants by November 25, 2020 with further guidance and information about the workshop.
As per the current Covid19 SOPs, this onsite workshop series has been adapted and all participants will be expected to follow them during the day.
