Iran has opened the largest cancer hospital in West Asia. The new 18-storey building at the Iran Cancer Institute, part of Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex, was officially inaugurated on June 3, 2026.
This modern facility covers 60,000 square metres and has more than 610 inpatient beds. It includes 19 operating rooms, 37 specialized departments, 96 chemotherapy beds, advanced radiotherapy and imaging equipment, and a national cell therapy laboratory. The hospital will greatly improve cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care for thousands of patients.
The project was completed despite many challenges, including years of international sanctions, limited access to medical equipment, and recent regional conflicts. Iran invested heavily in this centre, showing its strong commitment to public healthcare and advanced oncology services.
Health officials say the new hospital will reduce waiting times and bring world-class cancer treatment closer to people across Iran and the region. It marks a major step forward in strengthening the country’s medical infrastructure.
This achievement brings hope to many cancer patients and their families. It highlights Iran’s determination to develop high-quality healthcare even in difficult times.
