International mediators have offered Iran a 10-day ceasefire proposal to ease tensions with the United States. The plan aims to create space for talks and bring back an interim agreement signed last month, according to a senior Iranian official who spoke to Reuters.
The ceasefire would help reduce fighting and allow both sides to discuss important issues without more violence. Mediators, possibly including Qatar, hope it will reopen key shipping lanes in the region that have been affected by recent problems. This step comes after some disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and other areas that impacted global oil supplies.
Iran has not yet accepted the offer. Some Iranian officials quickly rejected the idea, saying they do not want to negotiate under pressure. The country had already moved away from the previous interim deal. However, the proposal shows continued efforts by mediators to bring the two sides back to the table for peaceful talks.
