Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian received a grand ceremonial welcome upon his arrival in Islamabad on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Pakistan rolled out the red carpet for the visiting leader with a 21-gun salute and a flypast by Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder fighter jets.
President Pezeshkian landed at Nur Khan Airbase for a one-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He was received by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and other senior leaders. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who arrived earlier, was also present.
The high-level welcome included a guard of honour at the Prime Minister’s House. Children in traditional dress presented bouquets to the Iranian president. This visit is Pezeshkian’s first abroad since recent regional tensions and comes right after diplomatic progress between Iran and the United States. Pakistan played a key role in mediating talks that led to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Discussions during the visit are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties, trade, energy cooperation, border security, and regional stability. Both countries aim to boost economic links and implement recent agreements.
