Islamabad Police Introduces Mandatory Weekly Rest for Personnel

Islamabad Police have introduced a new duty policy for 2026 that makes weekly rest mandatory for officers and other personnel. The measure is intended to bring greater structure to working schedules and ensure police staff receive designated time away from duty.

Under the new policy, weekly rest will be counted separately from regular leave. This means officers will be entitled to their scheduled rest days without having them deducted from their available leave balance.

The policy also outlines several situations in which personnel can apply for leave. These include medical needs, marriage, religious pilgrimages, competitive examinations and job interviews.

Different provisions have been introduced for marriage leave based on gender. Female police officers will be eligible for one month of marriage leave, while male personnel will be allowed 10 days.

Religious travel has also been covered under the policy. Police personnel can receive 45 days of leave for Hajj, while 21 days will be available for Umrah and other religious pilgrimages.

The introduction of mandatory weekly rest provides a formal framework for managing duty schedules within the Islamabad Police. It also separates routine days off from special leave, allowing personnel to use their leave entitlements for specific personal or official needs.

The policy covers a range of circumstances that may require officers to take time away from their duties, including important family occasions, health-related matters and professional opportunities.

By setting out specific leave categories and rest provisions, the 2026 policy provides police personnel with clearer guidelines for managing working hours and time off.

The new arrangements are aimed at creating a more organized duty system while ensuring that officers and staff have designated periods for rest and approved leave.
