IT Minister Strongly Objects to FBR’s Tax Notices to the IT Industry

Despite earlier concerns from the IT minister and the IT industry as a whole, as well as repeated warnings that such actions are stifling the IT industry’s progress and putting Pakistan’s objective of $10 billion in IT exports in jeopardy, the FBR has continued to issue tax notifications to the IT industry. The Minister of Information Technology has recently come out against the practice once more.

Syed Amin ul Haq, speaking at a news conference on Thursday, expressed grave worry about the FBR’s latest tax notices to the IT industry. “I wanted to talk to the media about something significant. The FBR has been sending various tax notices to the IT industry over the past few weeks.

The IT Ministry is quite concerned about this, and we’re talking to FBR authorities about it since this isn’t the way things should be done,” he said.

Such measures by the tax office, according to Syed Amin Ul Haq, contradict the government’s “Ease of Doing Business” initiative.
