A Japanese company has come up with an excellent solution to support Muslim tourists and workers. OM Kiki Co., based in Soja city, has developed a compact, portable prayer room called “Prayer Space”.
The wooden structure is easy to install and provides privacy for prayers. It measures 180 cm in height with a floor area of 150 cm by 150 cm, making it suitable for small spaces. The room includes a waterproof, easy-to-clean mat for performing ablution (wudu) and a movable Qibla indicator that helps users find the correct direction towards Makkah.
The idea was born when a company staff member saw a Muslim traveler struggling to find a suitable and private place to pray. This inspired the team to create a simple yet respectful solution for Muslims living in or visiting Japan.
According to the product’s developer, “The availability of a prayer space can be a very important factor in choosing a travel destination.”
Japan has seen a steady rise in Muslim visitors and residents in recent years. However, dedicated prayer facilities are still limited in many areas. This portable prayer room can be placed in hotels, offices, shopping malls, universities, and public spaces.
OM Kiki Co. aims to expand the availability of these prayer spaces across Japan. The innovation reflects growing efforts by Japanese companies to welcome people from different cultures and religions.
This thoughtful product is expected to make travel and daily life easier for Muslims in the country.
