Japan to Launch Work Visa for Skilled Workers, Here are the Details!

Japan is set to launch a new work visa program for skilled workers, as the country aims to address its labor shortage in certain industries. The program, which is set to begin in April 2023, will allow skilled workers from abroad to work in Japan for up to five years.

The new system will allow applicants involved with advanced academic research or advanced specialized/technical activities to secure a five-year visa if they have a master’s degree or higher and an annual income upward of ¥20 million, or an employment record of 10 years or more and an annual income upward of ¥20 million.

Document Required:

Applicants will need to prepare the following documents when applying for the visa:

  • A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining
  • A copy of the job offer letter from a Japanese employer
  • Proof of the applicant’s skills and expertise in the designated industry
  • Proof of language proficiency in Japanese

How to Apply:

To apply for the new work visa program, applicants must follow these steps:

  • Obtain a job offer from a Japanese employer in one of the designated industries
  • Prepare the required documents and pass the skills test
  • Apply for the visa at the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate in their home country
  • Attend an interview at the embassy or consulate to discuss their qualifications and eligibility for the visa
