K-Electric is seeking a rate increase of over Rs.6 per unit

According to ARY News, K-Electric, Karachi’s sole power distributor, has petitioned the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) for a Rs6.52 per unit increase in power cost for its customers.

The electricity firm requested the tariff increase due to monthly fuel charge changes from January to June 2021 and quarterly fuel charge increases from January to March 2021.

For the months of January, February, March, April, May, and June, K-Electric requested a Rs1.97 increase in the per unit price of electricity due to fuel adjustment costs, Rs2.49 for February, Rs1.49 for March, Rs0.86 for April, Rs0.64 for May, and Rs0.211 for June.

NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing for KE’s proposal for Monthly Fuel Cost Adjustments for the months of January to June 2021, as well as a quarterly tariff variation for March 2021, according to a notification.

“These requests are in line with the procedure set forth in KE’s Multi-Year Tariff, whereby changes in fuel prices, generation, and power purchase mix, as well as certain annual adjustments, are passed through,” it stated.
