Karachi buyer seeks Rs3.5 million over faulty fridge and warranty refusal
Yasir Ashfaq says a Rs102,000 fridge came with a warranty promise but no warranty card. A Karachi consumer court has sought written replies from the electronics company and a Saddar dealer.

Karachi resident Yasir Ashfaq has filed a Rs3.5 million damages claim against an electronics company and a dealer in Saddar, alleging that he was sold a faulty refrigerator and then refused warranty cover.
Ashfaq brought the case before Karachi’s consumer court through his lawyer, Usman Farooq, naming both the company and the dealer as parties. He is seeking compensation for the defective appliance, severe mental distress and financial loss.
Farooq said his client bought the refrigerator for Rs102,000 from a dealer at Hashoo Centre in Saddar. According to the lawyer, the purchase receipt mentioned a warranty, but Ashfaq was not issued a formal warranty card.
After the refrigerator developed a fault, the company was contacted about the appliance. Farooq said the private electronics company rejected the shop’s status as an authorised dealer, denying that it was part of its authorised sales network.
The complaint therefore names both the seller from whom Ashfaq purchased the refrigerator and the company approached over warranty cover. His claim asks the court to order the two parties to pay damages over the faulty product and the distress and financial losses he says he suffered.
Farooq also called for strict action against the company and the dealer. He argued that misleading consumers, selling counterfeit products and failing to honour warranties were unlawful practices.
The consumer court has directed both parties to submit their written replies at the next hearing.
