Karachi Port Trust Hits Record 55.44 Million Tons of Cargo in 2026

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has set a new cargo handling record, crossing 54.685 million tons during 2026 and surpassing its previous record. According to KPT, the earlier record of 54.685 million tons had been set in fiscal year 2017 to 2018, making the latest achievement an important milestone in the port’s 138 year history.

The record highlights the continued role of Karachi Port in handling Pakistan’s import and export activity. KPT’s latest available tonnage data also shows strong cargo movement, with imports and exports covering dry bulk, general cargo, and liquid cargo.

KPT has also reported record container handling. The port surpassed its previous annual record of 2.651 million TEUs before the end of the fiscal year, setting another new benchmark for container operations.

The latest performance reflects the importance of Karachi Port to Pakistan’s maritime trade and supply chains. As a major gateway for international commerce, higher cargo volumes can support trade activity and improve the movement of goods across the country.

The achievement also comes as authorities continue efforts to improve port operations and infrastructure, helping KPT handle growing trade demand more efficiently.
