Karachi Ranked Among ‘Least Liveable Cities’ in the World

Karachi has once again been ranked among the world’s least liveable cities. In the 2026 Global Liveability Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the city stood at 170th position out of 173 cities. Only Dhaka, Tripoli, and Damascus ranked lower.

The index measures five main areas: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Karachi scored low in most categories, especially stability and infrastructure. Problems like poor roads, traffic jams, weak healthcare services, and pollution continue to affect the daily lives of its millions of residents.

This ranking has started fresh talks about the need for better city planning and governance. Many people point to challenges such as unreliable public services, electricity shortages, and safety issues as key reasons for the low score.

Despite these problems, Karachi remains Pakistan’s biggest economic center. It is home to major businesses, ports, and industries. The city is also known for its strong culture, diverse population, and hardworking people. Its residents show great resilience and entrepreneurial spirit every day.
