Noor Jehan and Madhubala, two female African elephants at Karachi Zoo, have made headlines after the international animal care organisation Four Paws discovered they were suffering from dietary and dental concerns last month.

But there is some good news from their end. Madhubala’s sixteenth birthday was celebrated with a special celebration at the zoo yesterday. Madhubala, dressed in a green velvety cloth, is shown sampling her birthday cake by driving her trunk into it. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) organised the event, which brought a big number of children who participated in the cake cutting ceremony and sung Happy Birthday to Madhubala.

According to APP, KMC Administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who presided over the ceremony, stated that affairs at the zoo have improved in the last month under the zoo’s new management.
