Khawaja Asif Alleges LESCO Staff Charged Rs. 80,000 to Repair Transformer Without Receipt

Former Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has raised serious allegations of corruption within the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), claiming that residents were asked to pay Rs80,000 for the repair of a damaged transformer without being provided any official receipt. The allegations have reignited concerns about transparency, accountability, and oversight within the country’s power distribution sector.

According to reports, local residents were allegedly compelled to pool money together to ensure the transformer was repaired and electricity supply restored. The absence of any formal documentation or receipt has led to questions regarding unauthorized collections, misuse of authority, and the possibility of funds being handled outside official procedures.

The claims have sparked widespread discussion among consumers and public representatives, with many highlighting long-standing complaints about irregular practices, delays in service delivery, and a lack of accountability within utility companies. Citizens have expressed concerns that such incidents place an unfair financial burden on communities already dealing with rising living costs and utility expenses.

The allegations have also intensified demands for a thorough investigation into the matter. Critics argue that any officials found responsible should face strict disciplinary action, while broader reforms should be introduced to improve transparency and protect consumers from unlawful demands. Many have called for stronger monitoring mechanisms and clearer complaint redressal systems to ensure public trust in electricity distribution companies.

So far, authorities have not issued a detailed response regarding the allegations. However, the controversy has once again brought attention to the challenges facing Pakistan’s power sector and the need for greater accountability in public service institutions.
