KP Earns Record Rs. 335.6 Million From Four Markhor Hunting Permits

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has generated a record Rs. 335.6 million from the sale of four Markhor hunting permits, highlighting the financial potential of regulated wildlife conservation.

The permits were issued under Pakistan’s trophy hunting programme, which allows a limited number of selected animals to be hunted under controlled conditions. The system aims to support wildlife conservation while creating economic benefits for communities living near natural habitats.

A share of the revenue collected through the programme goes to local communities, helping fund development projects and conservation activities. This approach gives residents a financial incentive to protect wildlife and preserve the habitats where these animals live.

The Markhor, Pakistan’s national animal, is recognised for its distinctive spiral-shaped horns and is among the country’s most iconic wildlife species. Its conservation remains important for protecting Pakistan’s biodiversity and natural heritage.

The record revenue from the four permits highlights how carefully managed wildlife programmes can generate funds for conservation and provide financial support to communities living alongside wildlife.
