Authorities in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have sealed five private schools after inspections revealed unsafe building conditions that could put students and teachers at risk.
The action was taken on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali following a tragic school roof collapse in Peshawar that reportedly killed 30 students and a teacher. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of educational institutions and the condition of school buildings across the province.
Inspection teams visited schools in Landi Kotal, Bara and Jamrud to assess the condition of their buildings. During the inspections, officials reportedly found serious structural problems, including roofs supported by bamboo and crumbling walls.
These conditions raised concerns about the ability of the buildings to provide a safe learning environment. Authorities subsequently sealed five private schools to prevent students and staff from facing potential dangers.
Officials have also formed three committees to inspect public and private educational institutions across the district. The committees will examine school buildings and identify structures that require immediate attention or further safety assessments.
The inspection campaign is expected to continue in the coming days, with government schools also scheduled for examination. The process aims to identify unsafe buildings and ensure that necessary measures are taken to protect students and teachers.
School building safety has become a major concern following reports of structural failures at educational institutions. Poor construction, damaged walls and weak roofing can expose students and staff to serious risks, particularly when buildings are not regularly inspected and maintained.
The latest action in Khyber district highlights the importance of checking educational facilities and addressing structural problems before they lead to further incidents.
Authorities are continuing their inspections to assess the condition of schools and determine whether additional closures or safety measures are needed. The findings of the inspection committees are expected to help officials identify institutions requiring urgent repairs or other corrective action.
