KPK Increases Salaries of On-Duty Doctors Who Didn’t Protest

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced an additional 15% increase in stipends for trainee doctors who continued working during the recent strike at government hospitals.

According to officials, the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) has asked medical teaching institutions to provide lists of trainee doctors who remained on duty during the protest. The lists will include their names, departments, training levels, duty dates and supervisors. Their attendance and work records will also be checked before the additional payment is approved.

The decision comes after trainee medical officers and house officers launched a province-wide protest over their stipends. The doctors had demanded a 30% increase, saying their financial support had not kept pace with inflation.

The provincial government had already approved a 15% increase in monthly stipends in September, with the revised rates effective from July 1, 2026. It also approved a further 5% annual increase.

Under the latest decision, only doctors who can prove they performed their duties during the strike will receive the additional benefit. Payments for trainees who stayed away from duty will remain pending while the dispute is resolved.
