Lahore Again Becomes World’s Most Polluted City

Lahore has now become the most polluted city in the world, with an alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 394. This high level of pollution is largely due to smog, which has been caused by a combination of factors like burning crop waste and emissions from industries. The thick smog is not just a visibility issue; it is causing serious health problems for the people living in the city, including respiratory issues and worsening conditions like asthma.

In response, the government of Punjab has launched Anti-Smog Squads to address the situation. These squads are working to educate farmers on the dangers of crop burning and to promote better ways to dispose of leftover crops. The government is also enforcing strict zero-tolerance policies to ensure that laws are followed.

Minister Marriyam Aurangzeb highlighted the need for long-term solutions to the environmental problems contributing to the smog. She also encouraged citizens to report any sightings of illegal smoke or crop burning through a dedicated helpline, so that authorities can act quickly to prevent further pollution.

While these efforts are a step in the right direction, it will take sustained action and cooperation from both the public and industries to improve Lahore’s air quality in the future.
